Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University

HTHTA General Information

The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University is proud to present the fourth year of our one-of-a-kind summer camp program, Hands Together, Heart to Art. This program is designed for children 7-14 years old who have experienced the death of one or both parents. Employing several different areas of the performing arts, the program encourages communication, fosters emotional growth, and provides the consolation of friendship and compassion.

From July 7-18 and July 28 – August 8, 2007 the Auditorium Theatre will partner with prestigious Chicago companies The Joffrey Ballet and Child’s Play Touring Theatre, Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts, and licensed counselors to produce Hands Together, Heart to Art. This unique camp experience emphasizes team building, self-esteem, consciousness and problem solving. Through interaction with other children who have experienced a similar loss, campers understand that they are not alone in their situation.

Campers will develop skills in acting, improvisation, singing, music, dance, juggling, mime, stage direction and more! Campers will also create, rehearse and stage a final performance for family and friends. A high artist-to-student ratio ensures a fun, safe and supportive camp. In addition, the availability of grief counselors will allow campers to talk through their loss with a caring adult. Small group creative activities facilitated by professional healing counselors provide campers a safe time and place to express and share their grief with their peers. Our counselors are also on site throughout the duration of the camp.
